# Moving a Wix website to miow

miow moves a Wix website by reading its published pages, the way a visitor's browser does, and rebuilding each one as a miow page at the same address, with its words, pictures and videos. Links to the old site keep working once its domain points at miow.

## Can I export my Wix site?

No. In October 2026 Wix's help centre says a Wix site has to be hosted and run on Wix's servers, so there is no file to take to another host, and that blog posts cannot be exported to other platforms either.

miow does not need an export. It reads the list of pages the site publishes at its address followed by /sitemap.xml, then fetches each page on that list. A site with no sitemap cannot be moved this way.

## How do I move my Wix site to miow?

On the [home page](/#start), choose Move my site, enter the Wix site's address, and press Move it to miow. The move runs for a minute or two, and the new site appears at its own address on miow.me, where you save a passkey to become its owner.

A site you already own on miow can take the Wix pages in place of its own, under Move a website in on its owner page.

## What comes across from Wix?

Each page's own words, in the order the page gives them, laid out by a model as miow's blocks under a rule to keep every word and change none. Its pictures and videos are copied into miow's own storage, and embedded videos and maps stay where they stood. The footer comes across as the site's footer, the menu keeps its order and its labels, and a model sets the colours and fonts from the ones the Wix site uses most.

## What stays behind on Wix?

Forms, newsletter sign-ups, cookie notices and anything that runs as a script, such as a booking widget, are left out; where a form was the way to get in touch, the page keeps the email address or phone number it gives. A miow contact form can be added afterwards, and its messages reach the owner page.

A site with more than 40 pages brings across the 40 whose addresses sit fewest folders deep, home page first, so a long blog loses some of its posts. A video that cannot be copied is left out, and a picture that cannot be copied still loads from Wix.

## Can I use my Wix domain with miow?

Yes. Enter the domain under Your own domain on the owner page, and miow lists the DNS records to add: a TXT record proving the domain is yours, then the A and CNAME records that point it at miow.

In October 2026 Wix's help centre says a domain bought from Wix can point at a site hosted elsewhere through its A and CNAME records, and that its name servers cannot be changed. miow needs no change to them.

## Can I undo the move?

Yes. The move is one change in History on the owner page, and undoing it puts back the pages the site had before. Every edit after it is recorded the same way.
