miow, a Fandom alternative for a wiki of your own
miow hosts public wikis on their owners' own domains, with no ads, edited by the people who own them.
What is a good alternative to Fandom?
miow is one, for a wiki its owners write themselves and want on their own domain without ads. You set out the categories and write each page in the browser as it will look, and every save is kept as a version readers can open.
Fandom suits a different wiki: one any fan can edit, hosted free and paid for by ads.
How is miow different from Fandom?
Fandom's terms are from its own help pages in October 2026.
| miow | Fandom | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free for 14 days with no card, then £15, £20 or £25 a month by the wiki's visitors: up to 2,000, 20,000 or 200,000 a month, with every feature on each | Free |
| Ads | None, and no miow name or logo | Shown to readers who are not signed in, and fewer to those who are |
| Who edits | Its owners, each signing in with a passkey, and any AI agent they give the wiki's key | Anyone, signed in or not, unless the community turns anonymous editing off; a new wiki starts without it until Fandom's staff have checked it |
| Your own domain | Any wiki, with a domain you already own | A fandom.com address; Fandom suggests pointing a domain you own at it |
| Leaving | One zip of the wiki as data, its categories and every page, and every picture | An XML dump of the text, with or without its history and without pictures; an admin can ask for a fresh one once a week |
Can I move a Fandom wiki to miow?
Not with an importer: a miow wiki reads no XML dump and takes no import. Its pages are written in, by hand or by an AI agent, which saves each page with the wiki's key through miow's MCP server, the protocol AI assistants use to call tools.
Fandom's text is licensed CC BY-SA 3.0, which lets anyone copy it to a new site with credit and under the same licence. Fandom keeps its own copy running, so readers who search for the wiki can still land there.
What does miow leave out?
A miow wiki has no reader accounts, no open editing, no talk pages and no private pages, and it is written in blocks rather than wikitext. A wiki written by its whole community stays on Fandom or MediaWiki.
How does miow compare with other wiki software?
Wiki software compared sets miow beside MediaWiki, Fandom, GitBook and Notion.
