Moving a Squarespace website to miow

miow moves a Squarespace website by reading its published pages, the way a visitor's browser does, and rebuilding each one as a miow page at the same address. It also reads what only Squarespace's own markup and data say: where each block sits on the page, the colours and type sizes set in its stylesheet, and every product in its shop.

Can I export my Squarespace site?

Only in part, and only to WordPress. In October 2026 Squarespace's help centre says its export is an XML file in WordPress's format, which leaves out store pages, product and video blocks, style settings and custom CSS.

miow does not need an export. It reads the list of pages the site publishes at its address followed by /sitemap.xml, then fetches each page on that list.

How do I move my Squarespace site to miow?

Paste the Squarespace site's address into the box on the home page and press Move it to miow. If you are not signed in, the button reads Save a passkey and start, and the passkey you save makes you the new site's owner. The site appears at its own address on miow.me once the move ends.

A site you already own on miow can take the Squarespace pages in place of its own: paste the address into Ask miow on its owner page and press Replace this site with it.

What comes across from Squarespace?

Each page's own words, in the order the page gives them, laid out by a model as miow's blocks under a rule to keep every word and change none. Its pictures are copied into miow's own storage, so the site keeps working once the Squarespace account is closed.

The layout comes across with the words. A Fluid Engine section, Squarespace's drag-and-drop grid, keeps each block where it stood on a laptop's screen; a section set on another colour stays on a strip of colour; list sections keep their columns; and an accordion's questions become the page's questions and answers. Embedded YouTube videos stay where they stood, a map block becomes an embedded Google map of the same place, and a donation block keeps its suggested amounts and its monthly option.

The site's colours, type sizes, page width and button shape are read from its Squarespace stylesheet, and its header keeps its logo, button, tagline, social links and menu, in the same order with the same labels. Headings set in a font from the site's own Adobe Fonts project stay in that font.

Can I move my Squarespace shop to miow?

Yes. miow reads the shop from the product data Squarespace publishes beside its pages, so no model touches it: every product becomes a page of its own at the address it had, with its pictures, words and price, the sale price where it is on sale, and "From" the lowest price where its variants differ.

Its categories become tags, a product the shop shows as sold out is marked sold, and the shop page and each category page list their products, linked between down the left as the shop's category menu was. To take card payments, connect a Stripe account under Money in the site's Settings.

What stays behind on Squarespace?

Forms, newsletter sign-ups, cookie notices and anything that runs as a script are left out; where a form was the way to get in touch, the page keeps the email address or phone number it gives. Squarespace's built-in fonts come through a licence of Squarespace's, so the move uses the nearest font of the same kind.

Besides the shop's products, a site with more than 40 pages brings across the 40 whose addresses sit fewest folders deep, home page first, so a long blog loses some of its posts. A picture that cannot be copied still loads from Squarespace, and a video uploaded to Squarespace itself is left out of a move started from miow.me, since copying it needs video software miow's servers do not run.

Can I use my Squarespace domain with miow?

Yes. Enter the domain under Address in the site's Settings, and miow lists the DNS records to add: a TXT record proving the domain is yours, then the A and CNAME records that point it at miow.

In October 2026 Squarespace's help centre says a domain bought from Squarespace points at a site hosted elsewhere once its Squarespace Defaults records are deleted under DNS settings and the other host's records are added as custom records, and that the change can take 24 to 48 hours.

How does miow compare with Squarespace?

The page on miow as a Squarespace alternative sets the two side by side on price, sales fees and leaving.

Can I undo the move?

Yes. The move is one change in History on the owner page, and undoing it puts back the pages the site had before. Every edit after it is recorded the same way.
